How To Keep Your Head Cool While Wearing a Wig

How To Keep Your Head Cool While Wearing a Wig

Staying cool while wearing a wig in hot weather is no easy feat. A wig makes you feel confident, so there's no reason to ditch it during the summer. It can be a challenge, but it is possible to enjoy summertime and still look fabulous.

Check out these tips on how to keep your head cool while wearing a wig.

No Styling

Using styling tools during the hot months of summer will cause you to overheat. Not only that, but it will dry your wig out—both human hair and synthetic. Unlike your natural hair, your wig can’t benefit from naturally occurring oils in your scalp to get moistures. As such, use an anti-humidity spray to keep your hair from becoming frizzy. Additionally, styling your wig in the summer will dry it out, so it’s typically best to limit any styling.

Synthetic

Keep a few synthetic wigs ready for summertime. The differences between synthetic and human hair wigs means that each kind has its strengths. Human hair wigs tend to be heavier than synthetic wigs. The weight will increase the heat trapped between your wig and scalp. Even though human hair wigs are more natural-looking, they may not be worth it during heat waves. Look for heat-friendly synthetic wigs, as they can look more natural.

Updo

During the summer, keep your wig off your neck and shoulders by putting it into a bun, ponytail, or braid. You can find braided wigs for sale online—this way, you don't have to worry about updos for the summer.

Lighter Colors

One of the most overlooked tips on how to keep your head cool while wearing a wig is the color. Like clothing, dark wigs absorb more heat. Switch out your wig colors to stay cooler when it's stifling hot outside.

Wig Liner

A wig liner can be a saving grace during heat and humidity. They help circulate the air between the cap and your scalp. It also has the added benefit of helping to keep your wig in place.

Wash Often

Be sure to wash your wig often when it’s hot outside. Sweat and oils from your face can gather onto the strands and weigh your wig down.
