Traveling With Your Wigs: 4 Packing and Care Tips

Traveling With Your Wigs: 4 Packing and Care Tips

There’s nothing like leaving home for the open road. And whether you’re heading to the big family reunion or taking a trip with the girls, you want to do it with the looks that will make you feel confident. For some, that means bringing their favorite wigs!

But even though wigs are the perfect option for gorgeous hair with minimal effort, knowing how to pack up your wig can be tricky. That’s why we’ve compiled our favorite tips and tricks for traveling with your wig.

Keep the Wig Secure

Tossing your wig in your suitcase without thinking will leave you with a frizzy, damaged wig. Your best bet is to carefully turn the wig inside out and place it in a silk bag before tucking it into your suitcase. This will help keep it from getting caught on buttons, zippers, and other hazards in your case.

If you have a styled wig and are OK with checking an extra bag, you can also put the wig on a stand or Styrofoam head and put it in its own case. Even then, putting a net or bag over the wig is still a good idea to prevent damage.

Bring Wig Styling Tools

We wouldn’t dream of going on vacation without a wide-tooth comb and a water bottle. So why would we go on vacation without the tools we need to style our wigs?

These tools will change depending on how long your trip is. For shorter trips, you’ll at least need your hair adhesives and clips, and maybe a wide-toothed comb depending on the style of wig. For longer trips, you may need to bring shampoo and conditioner or just bring another wig.

Pack Storage

You’ll also need a place to put your wig at the end of the day. In many cases, you can simply leave your wig in the silk bag you brought it in. However, if you’re going to be in one place for a long time, you may want to bring a wig stand with you. That way, you won’t risk damaging the wig by putting it in and taking it out of the bag as often. It will also make putting it on much faster.

Don’t Forget Haircare

Your wig isn’t the only hair you’ll need to care for. Even though a wig can be a protective style for your hair, it’s important to show your hair a little love with the right products, like moisturizer and conditioner. Just be sure you don’t put your wig on while your hair is still damp. Also, be sure to bring a silk bonnet to sleep in to avoid drying your hair out.

Knowing how to pack your wigs when you’re traveling is only half the battle. The other is having an amazing wig in the first place. At Instant Arewa Hair, we have a variety of styles to choose from, from scarf looks to cornrow braided wigs to help you hit the road in style.
